14 - Abigail Meyer - Winger
How did you first become interested in football and when did you start playing?
I have always been interested in football since I can remember - my mum was always a massive influence on my football and still is to this day. I remember when I was in primary school I couldn’t wait until I was in year 3 as that was when you were allowed to join clubs. As soon as I could I joined the football team at school and I never looked back.
What was your first team?
My first team outside of school was Torbay Colts. We then merged to form Kingskerswell girls.
Who was your sporting hero growing up?
Thierry Henry has always been my absolute idol in football!
What positions have you played?
Mostly been a winger (left or right) but I have played anywhere across the midfield as well as striker. I was a keeper for a brief period during primary school but never again!
Which teams have you played for?
Torbay Colts, Kingskerswell Girls, Plymouth Argyle Centre of Excellence, Plainmoor Ladies, Buckland Athletic WFC.
What’s been your footballing highlight so far?
My footballing highlight has to be the treble winning season with Buckland - unbeaten in the league, Devon County Cup and League Cup. What a season! 
What are your hopes for the new season?
My hopes for this season is that as a team, we continue to rebuild and get back to our winning ways and personally, to enjoy playing my football despite all of the chaos in the world at the moment!
What are your long-term goals in football?
Individually I want to be the best player that I can be. Fundamentally though, I just want to enjoy my football, that’s the most important thing for me.
What advice would you give to young girls who want to play football?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it! Give it 110% and just enjoy it. Your football family is a family like no other and it is one I certainly cherish.
