17 - Carmen Morison - Striker
How did you first become interested in football and when did you start playing?
I’ve always been very active my whole life and have loved anything sport related. I used to play football at school with the boys and played for the school team as well. I also used to go to the park all the time with my Dad, which is where I became more interested. But I didn’t join a proper team until I was 11 or 12, as I did gymnastics at quite a high level and spent most of my time doing that, but when I went to high school I chose to join a football team as it’s what I was more interested in and have loved it ever since!
What was your first team?
My first team was Sutton United u13s
Who was your sporting hero growing up?
I didn’t watch much premier league football growing up but have always loved watching England and Women’s football, so I would have to say Lucy Bronze and Steph Houghton
What positions have you played?
Striker, LW, RW, CM and even in goal a few times which led to me also playing in goal for a cup final!
Which teams have you played for?
Sutton United, Morden Little league, Crystal Palace, West Exe, Newton Fire, Devon FA, Dawlish United U18s, Exeter City.
What’s been your footballing highlight so far?
It’s got to be winning the treble with Dawlish United U18 girls a few years ago, where I also got top goalscorer, players player and supporters player! It was my first season with them and we had an unbelievable one! Winning the league, The Devon FA Cup and the league cup which is unforgettable!
What are your hopes for the new season?
To enjoy my football and put 100% into each and every game leaving no regrets on the pitch! And I want us to continue with the hard work and show teams what we are really made of!
What are your long-term goals in football?
To play at the highest level possible while enjoying my football at the same time. And to simply believe in myself more to get the best performance out of every game!
What advice would you give to young girls who want to play football?
If it’s something you love and are passionate about then don’t hesitate - just do it! Don’t worry about what anyone else may think and enjoy the game!
From players you’ve played with or against - what’s your dream 5 aside team? (4 plus you)
Goalkeeper - For my goalkeeper I’m going with the current favourite; Abbi Bond. She’s a class keeper, technically and tactically gifted and extremely hardworking.
Defence - For defence I’ve got to go with Sarah Smith (Smudge) because you're not just getting a defender with her! She can deliver down the line with pace and agility and still get back to do her job and her work rate is unreal!
Midfield - For my midfield I’m choosing Abigail Meyer. She’s a speedy and skilful attacking threat and always puts 100% into every game and I admire her determination!
Midfield - And then finally for my other midfielder I’m going with Natalie Warman who is a defenders worst nightmare as she can dribble through players for miles and never fails to deliver!
