7 - Maria Warman - Midfield
How did you first become interested in football and when did you start playing?
My earliest memory is when I was in year 4 at Primary School. I was asked by my friend Sian, who was in year 5, if I would play for the year 5/6 team and my PE teacher said I could if I didn’t tell anyone. I’d played before then, but that’s when I started playing competitively against other schools.
What was your first team?
Ashmoor
What positions have you played?
CM and I’ve dabbled at CB and RB recently.
Which teams have you played for?
Ashmoor, Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United and Buckland.
What’s been your footballing highlight so far?
Winning the treble with Buckland in the 2017/18 season and I was the Captain.
What are your hopes for the new season?
I personally want to be able to compete well as an individual in this division and for us as a Team to play good football. I’d love us to finish top 3!
What are your long-term goals in football?
For me, I always wanted to push on and see what league I could play in but now it’s all about enjoying my football and to keep on learning.
What advice would you give to young girls who want to play football?
Do it! There are so many more opportunities now and support around girls and ladies football. But make sure you take your cool downs and stretches seriously because you start to ache as you get older 😂
From players you’ve played with or against - what’s your dream 5 aside team? (4 plus you)
