Buckland responded to a difficult week with a solid performance on the Dorset coast. A bright start produced an early chance for Sarah Stacey, whose effort was thwarted by a good save from the Poole keeper. Stacey was then foiled again, before on 8 minutes, Stacey slotted home for her first goal of the campaign. Midfielder Brooks then rattled the bar with a stinging shot, before Zoe Cunningham produced a piece of magic on the edge of the box, with the Poole stopper producing a quite stupendous piece of acrobatics to keep the score line at 1-0.
The Devon side continued to create chances, with Meg Wood & Sarah Smith both looking dangerous, linking up well down the left. However Bucks second goal came from a simply sublime finish from Right Back Alex Hugh, who collected the ball on the halfway line, driving forwards & unleashing a piledriver from 40 yards which sailed over the keeper, clipping the bar as it flew into the net. It was soon 3, as Leah Brooks arrived in the box to smash home a rebound right on the stroke of half time.
HALF TIME: Poole Town 0-3 Buckland
The second half started in a similar pattern, as Buckland looked to press home their advantage. Maria Warman looked solid in Central midfield, breaking up play & playing in the ever dangerous Carmen Morison. On 60 minutes, Wood was upended as she broke into the area, forcing the referee to point to the spot, up stepped Cunningham to make it 4.
Now in a comfortable position, new personnel were introduced, first Carla Staddon returned to action after 18 months away from competitive action after serious injury, replacing goalscorer Alex Hugh, before youngster Lolly Foulds was handed her maiden appearance of the season, replacing Cunningham. Morison was then upended in the area, earning the yellows a second penalty, however she pulled herself up off the deck, but the keeper guessed correctly, making a fine save.
As the full time whistle went, the joy was clear to behold, as the return to winning ways signalled the intentions for the season.
